I cannot believe 4 months have passed already! It seems like just yesterday I was pregnant and the girls were born. Life is definitely hectic and there is little time to do much as routines keep adjusting each day. Hopefully soon, we’ll be on a regular pattern of napping and not just 3-4 30 minute naps a day!
We went for a checkup last week, and the girls are doing awesome:
Anna is in the 75th percentile at 14 lb, 10.5 oz, and 25 1/8 inches.
Erin is only in the 3rd and 5th at 11 lb, 0.5 oz, and 23 1/4 inches. The rate and amount she is growing is good, so there are no concerns.
A few weeks back, we went for Erin’s heart follow up. Praise God her murmur is gone and the cause of it has healed. She has a tiny PFO (patent foramen ovale), but it will resolve on its own. We will go back in 2 years to check her heart again, due to the thymus issue (cysts, but we revisit that in April). He just wants to check and make sure as her thymus shrinks it doesn’t affect the heart. The cardiologist is awesome and I’m thankful he’s so transparent with me and tells me everything!
Developmentally, it’s so interesting to watch how the girls differ. They can do the same things, but one starts certain things before the other, and vice versa.
They both reach and grab things. Everything of course attempts to visit the mouth. They can sit up pretty well, assisted. Anna has just recently begun to push up a little. She gets her head and shoulders up well, and is working on pushing. Erin can do this, but she doesn’t do it as well or as much as Anna. It won’t be long though. Both girls babble and laugh, which is both funny and heartwarming. Last night, Erin was laughing at Anna. It was so funny, because all Anna was doing was squirming around and smiling. It must have been some unspoken communication! They can just look at each other and burst into laughter without so much as a smile! It is something else to see two little people communicate through looks and coos.
Honestly, I don’t think it will be long before we have at least one mover. They haven’t rolled over yet, but they both do attempt to push off with their knees or feet and when on their back, they rock and roll a bit. Erin loves to stand, but Anna is more content sitting up to watch everything. Erin loves the exersaucer and being upright. Anna is more content sitting on your lap or laying on the floor, but is starting to warm up to the idea of being upright to see everything. Can you guess who might be the first mobile one?!
Anna has two bottom teeth working their way up. I can see the tops of the white and her gums are starting to swell a little more each day. She is a constant drooly mess and chews on her hands and whatever else she can. You can tell there is some discomfort there. Erin is just now starting the drool and chew phase, so we’ll see what happens there.
Big brother has done an awesome job, but the new phase is over and he’s starting to get a bit impatient and not understand how much care babies need. There is a streak of jealousy going on, but it is remedied pretty well with a little extra time and love. It’s hard though, because the behavior has changed and it feels like he is constantly getting in trouble. He sometimes does things intentionally to one of the girls and then when they cry, he yells “I’m sorry sissy! I’m soooorrry!”. It’s a bit funny because he knows he did wrong, but he won’t not do it in the first place. All we know is to be consistent, and hopefully this phase will move along quickly!
Each day, it is so amazing to see these two unique personalities growing! It is also amazing to see the bond that they have and watch them interact with each other. It’s also awesome to see how protective and loving their big brother is. It really brings tears to my eyes because it just melts my heart.
I am so thankful for these two little miracle babies, and so thankful that God chose to bless our family with them. In the beginning, we were a little intimidated by the thought of two littler girls, but now, I see exactly why we were meant to have them and I would not have it any other way! They are the perfect fit and I could not be more blessed.
